COMPANY BACKGROUND

Hong Leong Assurance Berhad is a well established and respected brand offering a wide range of life insurance and general insurance products designed to meet the changing needs of households across Malaysia. It is being customer centric that is a key to Hong Leong Assurance’s success. It also specialise in providing customised insurance solutions for commercial business risks. It has a large network of branches, agents and brokers throughout the country and continues to expand its market penetration through its bancassurance and alternative distribution channels.

Hong Leong Assurance began as a General Insurance business under the name of Malaysia Pacific Insurance Berhad in 1972. The Life Insurance business was added into its portfolio a year later. In December 1982, Hong Leong Assurance Sdn Bhd, a composite insurance company, was formed eventually acquiring the entire general and life business of Malaysia Pacific Insurance. Today, Hong Leong Assurance is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hong Leong Financial Group Berhad, the financial services arm of Hong Leong Group Malaysia.

Upon Hong Leong Assurance’s acquisition of Dao Heng Insurance Co Ltd in 2005, relevant insurance resources and expertise were pooled together creating synergies for future business expansion of the Hong Leong Assurance group in Hong Kong. Meantime, along with Hong Leong Bank and Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co Ltd, Hong Leong Assurance formed a Joint Venture Takaful company creating a competitive, innovative and customer-centric takaful operation called Hong Leong Tokio Marine Takaful Berhad.

Hong Leong Assurance became the first composite insurer in Malaysia to achieve the ISO 9002 Quality Certification for both its General and Life Divisions subsequently receiving the upgraded ISO 9001:2000 in year 2005 a testimony to the company’s total commitment to quality.
